Update report of Thunderbyte Anti-Virus utilities.
Prefixes:
'-' indicates a change that does not require user attention.
'->' indicates a modification that requires user attention, such as a
change in program invocation, etc.
*** NOTE ***
NetWork administrators, read the TBAV.Doc file for information about a
fast and reliable way to update all workstations automatically!
6.09 Product update
-------------------
Sinterklaas was very happy with the many registrations and good reviews
we received this year. He gave us a nice Sinterklaas present: TBAVW609.ZIP
(TBAV for Windows). Available for download and file requests. Currently,
this is just a full-fledged Windows front-end, which still requires the
DOS TBAV utilities. We are working however on a Windows based TBAV scanner.
Stay tuned... We removed the TBAV.ICO and TBAV.PIF files from the package.
Note: We receive many questions from people regarding our absence in VSUM.
See the file No_VSUM.Doc for an explanation.
New agents added. See the Register program and Agents.Doc file for info.
Addendum.Doc:
- In the addendum file we included the information how you can
detect the presence of the resident TBAV utilities in memory
from within DOS batch files.
Upgrade.Bat:
-> This batch file is no longer supplied with the TBAV package. If
you are upgrading from previous TBAV versions, use the Install.Bat
file to cleanup obsolete files and to generate new Anti-Vir.Dat
files. You may use the Install.Bat file to copy the new TBAV
version to the destination directory, but you may also use it
after you have copied the new files already.
The Install.Bat file will NOT change your existing configuration!
TbDriver:
-> TbDriver now establishes a dedicated stack for the TBAV utilities.
TbDriver needs about 300 extra bytes compared to previous versions.
If previous versions of TBAV didn't work correctly without StackMan,
you don't need to use StackMan anymore. If your system always worked
correctly without StackMan you can use option 'nostack' of TbDriver
to recover about 256 bytes.
StackMan:
-> StackMan is no longer supplied with the shareware TBAV package.
You shouldn't need it anymore to solve TBAV related problems.
Since StackMan has been proven to be a valuable utility anyway,
it is still available as a freeware package on our support BBS,
and it is still supplied with the commercial TBAV package.
TbGenSig:
- TbGenSig compresses the signatures much better. The TbScan.Sig
file is now smaller, and the scanners need less memory.
TbScanX:
- Improved the tracing algorithms, resulting in better detection
rates.
- The default XMS swap segment has been relocated to segment 04000h
(was 06000h). This should solve some problems with WordPerfect.
If it introduces new problems, you can use option 'xmsseg=6000'
to restore the old situation.
- The signatures are now compressed much better. Because TbScanX
keep the signatures compressed in memory, the memory requirements
have been reduced. With the current signature file, TbScanX
needs about 5Kb less memory, without loss of speed or detection
capabilities.
- On popular demand the API of TbScanX has been implemented again.
You need to specify option 'api' (i) to enable the API function
calls. Consult the file Addendum.Doc for more information.
TbCheck:
- No longer complains about a non-existing Anti-Vir.Dat record
while the Novell login script is being processed.
- Solved a compatibility problem with a menu program.
TbSetup:
- If you specify a filename to TbSetup, the file will be put in the
Anti-Vir.Dat file, regardless of the filename extension. This to
allow you to authorize TSR's without 'executable' extension.
TbScan however will not check the CRC of these non-executable
files.
TbScan:
- Fixed a bug of the 6.08 causing some '* No TbScan.Lng entry! *'
messages in the Log file.
- TbScan no longer tries to open the TbScan.Lng, TbScan.Sig and
TBAV.INI file in the current directory before trying the 'home'
directory. TbScan now only tries to access these files in the
directory where the TbScan.Exe file itself is located.
- Solved a false positive (Lilo bootcode).
TbUtil:
- TbUtil had a bug, causing to restore nothing when you ommitted the
optional parameters of option 'restore', and to restore everything
when any of the optional parameters of option 'restore' were
specified. Corrected.
- Added a new sub-option 'nomem'. This is a sub-option of 'immunize'
and causes the TbUtil partition code not to check for the amount
of memory during boot-up.
Viruses:
- Changed signatures:
_1804 (renamed to Dashel)
